Page 84: Improvement
in the U.S. educational system would enhance labor skills,
increase labor productivity, and thereby promote economic
growth.
The
group of teachers that C4BC has just met with feel:
-
The
Teachers Union is outdated, out of touch, past it’s
usefulness, needs reform, this can only
happen if the teachers union support the initiative petition
for real education reform and the
teachers union reforms as well, this is the feeling of the
teachers who are paying the dues
-
The
Teachers Union do not help or care about the teachers cost
of living increases, pay raises
-
The
Union do not care about the discipline of the students,
teachers are assaulted all the time
and continues
One
of the reasons teachers continue paying their dues is the legal
side, if there is a problem between
a student and teacher, or someone in the administration is
harassing or crossing the line with a
teacher, the union does supply legal representation, which the
teachers could not afford on their own.
A
big majority of teachers will support any move to change the way
kids are educated in Kansas City,
even if this means a breakup of the district, they feel the pain
of the parents and community.
|
Two
items the teachers are concerned about: |
The teachers realize Citizens 4 Better Communities and the many
groups and organizations working
with and supporting this education reform are not out to take
anyone’s job, we support change, but will
look for way to move people on get rid of them, this is why the
teachers support C4BC
The teachers live in neighborhoods, most unsafe. The teachers
are far behind the pay scale of other
professions, this is another reason they support C4BC, this
initiative petition deals with absentee
landlords, and taking some expired taxes and splitting the tax
up onto neighborhood school and teacher
pay raised and training skills. Passing laws putting discipline
back in schools.
Protecting teachers, they too want to feel safe at work, just
like the private sector, which would not put up
with what the teachers go through
